As a professional writer and editor I have worked in both Canada and Pakistan covering a diverse range of subjects, including politics, health, education, technology, business, travel and the environment. At Newsline, the premier English-language monthly news magazine in Pakistan, I also regularly write movie and book reviews, as well as conduct interviews with leading business and political personalities. Writing in-depth features on topics such as the media or the energy crisis always brings the most satisfaction.


However, a large chunk of my time -- after developing story ideas and assembling the editorial line-up -- is spent editing the submissions of staff writers and contributors. Being in Karachi has involved a huge emotional and professional shift from growing up and working in Canada, but the benefits of working in a small, independent news organization in one of the most volatile and interesting countries in the world has been priceless.
