(2011 - 2011)
IRD is involved with public health in low income communities. I worked as an OpenMRS Implementer. OpenMRS is an open source Medical Record System (www.openmrs.org). I was responsible for implementing the use of OpenMRS in healthcare settings, both domestically in Pakistan and internationally and ensuring its smooth functionality and ease of use among its users, for the community-based MDR-TB programme.
Essentially, I was a bridge between the IT and the people involved with the treatment of TB, at a social level.
As part of the community-based MDR-TB programme I was involved with:
- Setting up and launching the pilot for Mobile OpenMRS involving Treatment Supporters (TS) using mobile technology to upload DOTS encounter data directly on to a server for realtime viewing.
- Creating a manual for TSs with detailed instructions on using the Mobile OpenMRS software on the phones.
- Assisting with a delegation from Tajikistan in developing partnerships for community-based MDR-TB using OpenMRS and Mobile OpenMRS.
- Data entry of patients, maintaining forms on OpenMRS and providing tutorials on using OpenMRS on both computers and phones for Mobile OpenMRS.
